Possibilities of augmented reality (AR)

AR is used with Terra integrated space environment simulator complex for visualization of spacecraft’s orbits, the Earth’s magnetic field, visualization of the Keplerian elements.

This application works on Apple iPad Pro 11 (minimum version).

The main features of AR

  1. Display of satellites nearby Terra in real time;

  2. Adding of satellites on the orbit by NORAD ID (Satellite Catalog Number);

  3. Adding several ground stations by coordinates

  4. Displaying of the chosen satellite (in ECEF non-inertial system):

    • For satellites with a height more than 5000 km shows the ground track of an orbit and the orbit;
    • Displaying of the name and coordinates of the satellite (LLA);
    • Timestamp on the orbit/the satellite’s flight track
    • Visualization of satellite visiability area;
    • Scrolling time for satellite’s location during a day;
    • Displaying of the receiving station by the location (with a name);
    • There is an opportunity to save satellites by ID. For chosen satellites the app works without internet connection.
  5. Displaying ten models of different satellites;

  6. Visualization of Earth remote sensing (based on Meteor-2);

  7. Visualization of the magnetic field of the Earth:

    • The shape of the field;
    • The axis of the magnetic field;
    • The axis of rotation of the Earth;
    • Brazilian and the Cape Town anomalies;
    • The Van Allen radiation belt.
  8. Visualization of the Keplerian elements of the orbit (with the ability of the interactive change):

    • Semi-major axis;
    • Inclination;
    • Ascending Node;
    • Eccentricity;
    • For 0 < ε < 1 – perigee and apogee (pericenter, apocenter);
    • Argument of the pericenter (or the longitude of the pericenter);
    • A true anomaly.
  9. Visualization of the velocity change for elliptical orbit;

  10. Visualization of basic types of orbits nearby the Earth:

    • Circular, elliptical, parabola, hyperbola;
    • Sun-synchronous orbit, Polar, Molniya.
  11. Visualization of working principles with Mission control center (field of visibility, the number of sessions, satellite’s height above the station).
